Tilford East Bridge Update    17 September, 2019

Re: Tilford East Bridge closure

Tilford East Bridge will be closed permanently from Monday 23 September 2019.

Works to construct the temporary footbridge have progressed well and as such, the full time closure of Tilford East Bridge has now been programmed to commence on Monday 23 September. The closure will go in to place at 7am on this date. The bridge will not be reopened until the works have been fully completed, we expect this to be about 9 – 10 months.

For the first week or so of the bridge closure, access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained across the bridge. Once the temporary footbridge has been completed and approved for use, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be able to cross the river using this temporary bridge for the duration of our works.

Sheephatch Lane closure

From Monday 23 September, the vehicle gates on Sheephatch Lane will be closed and locked 24 hours a day/7 days a week for the duration of the works on Tilford East Bridge. As previously mentioned, these vehicle gates will prevent Sheephatch Lane being used as an unofficial diversion route and will protect the Old Tilford Mill Bridge from excessive use.

Residents, landowners and businesses who require access along Sheephatch Lane can continue to use the code provided to open the vehicle gates. We would ask that you please close and lock these gates once you have travelled through them. The vehicle gates will be checked regularly by our contractor, however, if there are any concerns please do let us know.

A Surrey County Council officer has hand-delivered this letter to your property today, if you have any further concerns please do not hesitate to contact us on 0300 200 1003 between 09:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday (local rate number).
